Finish Me

Finish Me is a participatory artist book born from the experience of nearly losing my life. In 2018, I was struck by a vehicle while riding my bicycle and suffered injuries that radically altered my body, relationships, career, and understanding of myself. The person I had been before the accident did not simply return. In many ways, that life was finished.

The years since have been an ongoing process of constructing another life—not returning to who I was, but discovering who I might still become. Finish Me grows from that experience and asks a larger question: What if none of us are finished?

The book will intentionally remain incomplete. Through drawing, writing, photography, storytelling, sound, maps, questions, and physical activities, I will create a work that requires another person's participation. Readers will be asked to color, write, draw, remember, listen, walk, alter, and respond to the pages. In completing the book, they are simultaneously asked to consider the unfinished parts of themselves.

The words Finish Me therefore operate in both directions. The artwork asks the participant to finish it, while the participant is invited to ask what experiences, relationships, places, losses, joys, and possibilities are still shaping who they are becoming.
